Finally, Senate Passes Peace Corps Bill
The Nigerian senate on Tuesday, July 25, passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para-military agency.
The red chamber of the national assembly, adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps based on an advice by the committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters.
The two arms of the National Assembly had passed the bill separately in 2016 but after the harmonisation of the two separate bills, the Senate had rejected the harmonised version, which has now been approved.
After the House of Representatives approves the harmonised version, the bill will be forwarded to the President for assent.
