It is quite sad and heart-rending to experience the spate of killings in the present day Nigeria. How disturbing the situation is? When the Nation has been likened to a vampire of a kind where the blood of innocents flow and the occupants are happier to drink and swim from it. It seems some people are benefiting from these blood-letting feuds in the country of ours. It is quite unfortunate to witness this rate of massacre that is going on here; where the claim to religiosity is unparallel among black nations. The two major religions in Nigeria are Islam and Christianity which always preach against this kind of killings on their altars.
Even though the present leader has claimed to have inherited the security challenges in our country and as well promised to bring his full experience as a General in the army to tame the ugly incident. However, while battling with the dreaded Boko-Haram, the Nigeria Army decided to prove their expertise on a civilian group in the city of Zaria where close to a thousand were killed, some maimed and several others incarcerated in the event they described as blockade and assault to the convoy of chief of Army Staff (COAS).
IMN is a group that has never taken arm in any of their processions and protests since it was founded. Unfortunately in this incident where the bloods of defenseless civilian were spilled and thereafter a court of competent jurisdiction has proved their innocence. What really pains was that gruesome action of a state was not condemned by all. A conscious mind should note that it may be the turn of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) today due to the fact that they are of minority. Nobody know it will degenerate to where it is now; Herdsmen /farmers, cattle rustlers, kidnapping and other form of killings concurrently with suicide attacks by the Boko-Haram.
Every killing in whatever form is bad, not to talk of killing an innocent man. If truly Nigerians believed in this statement, they should criticize any soul taking by others irrespective of where it comes from. Unfortunately, we have seen people of this country colourised attacks and killings in Nigeria. At times they called Fulani herdsmen killings and so what they expect is total condemnation of the Fulani ethnic. This particular act of ethnicised killings will not help in finding lasting solution to this menace in Nigeria.
It is worth to note how people on the media vent their angers when condemning the series of attacks but failed to frown at the carnage of IMN group in Zaria, Kaduna state. This hypocrisy of selective condemnation by our country men will make the situation worse. The government that is unapologetic in one instance cannot come out and condemn spilling of blood in another instance. Indeed, it is a kettle calling pot black.
Therefore, let us all join hands to criticize blood-letting in all ramifications and punish the offenders. This is how the level of humanity in us can be shown. We should desist from the habit of given a dog a bad name in other to hang it and do away with all forms of extra judicial killings. Also, hatred of a group (religion or ethnic) should not give us the license not to deal justly with them in line with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. An injury to one, they say, is an injury to all. The law enforcement agents should try to investigate all killings in a bid to recognize the evil doers and bring back the desired peace and justice to the land. Finally, Nigeria will remain one if we all eschew emotions that often arise from ethnic and religion dealings to purge the nation of crimes and criminality.
