Senator @RafiuIbrahim has not withdrawn from Kwara South Senatorial Race - Aide
Contrary to rumours in some quarters, Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim has not withdrawn from the 2019 Kwara South Senatorial race.
The media aide to the Senator, Abdulqadir Abdulganiyy, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday said that the re-election bid of the lawmaker is still on course and asked the general public to disregard the rumours.
According to him, the rumours emanated from some politicians who are desperate to get the senatorial ticket at all cost. He said "any politician who is interested in the senate seat should canvass for it by soliciting people’s support rather than asking other aspirants to step down."
Abdulganiyu noted the lawmaker had not stepped down for any aspirant and is not contemplating to do so, stressing that Dr Rafiu was prepared for the senatorial primary election which is expected to hold tomorrow (Thursday).
“Senator Rafiu Ibrahim has not stepped down for any aspirant and is not considering doing so. He is still very much in the race and has the massive supports of his constituents. In fact, he is adequately prepared for Thursday’s senatorial primary election of the party.”
He expressed optimism that his boss would clinch the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Kwara South senatorial seat in the 2019 general elections.
“It is my hope that the party will allow that the Kwara South senatorial candidate for 2019 emerge through a primary election. I am very confident that Senator Rafiu will emerge victorious if a free, fair and transparent primary election is held today,” he added.
He therefore, called on all delegates, members of the party in Kwara South and the supporters of the senator to go and prepare for the primary election.
Abdulganiyu stated that the senator’s performance in the Senate in the last three and half years and his relationship with his constituents placed him in a better position to pick the PDP’s senatorial ticket ahead of any other aspirant.
“I called on the delegates, members of the PDP in Kwara South, supporters of Dr Rafiu Ibrahim and the general public to disregard the fake reports that the senator had withdrawn from the race, as he is still very much committed to his re-election bid."
He stated that Senator Rafiu's loyalty, competence, performance and his responsiveness to his people are enough to earn him the senatorial ticket.
