By Waliyulah Olayiwola.
I intend making this short yet beneficial.
Hopefully, I'll succeed in giving you value in a short time.
That said, if you're already making six figures monthly, sorry you have no need reading this. Let others benefit from it.
=====
You're still here?
Well then, let's get right to it, shall we?
Here you go in 10 simple steps.
Step 1
Go on Google and search: "useful skills to learn for the online job market in 2019"
You'll find and get an idea of lucrative skills useful out there.
Choose one or two you're interested in.
Few samples of what you might find are:
1. Digital Marketing
2. Artificial Intelligence
3. Writing
4. Copywriting
5. Content Marketing
6. Web development
7. Data Analytics
8. Mobile Application Development
9. Cloud Computing
10. Cyber Security
And so on and so forth.
Step 2
Make your choice among these useful skills.
Ensure you choose something you'll love doing in the long run.
In my example, I could choose Copywriting, Digital Marketing, SEO, How to Generate Traffic online and Artificial Intelligence.
Step 3
Search for online courses that teach each or all of these skills.
You can find a lot of those courses on Google too, paid or free.
But to ease things for you, please go to
Udemy.com
Coursera.com
Etc
Step 4
Search for online jobs that need those skills.
When searching for such jobs online, you need to use keywords.
Let me teach you three key words employers use to announce vacancies.
We're Hiring + skill
Eg: we're hiring support personnel, we're hiring web developer, we're hiring digital marketers etc
Vacancy + position
Eg: "Vacancy Programmer", etc
Step 5
Apply for tens of these jobs not just apply for one or two and hope they'll contact you.
Dedicate a day or two to apply for 100 of such jobs.
If you're lucky and you pray, you can get five or three of those online companies to contact you.
Step 6
Search for the email of the person in charge of recruitment.
Don't just use the generic email address everyone uses or the online contact form.
This is important. Imagine submitting your application through the same avenue 1million other applicants are using.
It's a black hole. It'll suck your application in and that's the last you'll here from it.
At best, you'll get an acknowledgement that they've received your application.
Acknowledgements like:
"We'll contact you if you're shortlisted"
or "if you don't mind, we'd love to keep your details to contact you if a position opens in future"
Yen yen yen! It's a no in secret code.
After that message, it'll all be zip, zilch and zippo. You'll hear nothing but crickets!
You can use some online tools to search for the emails of the person in charge of recruitment and it differs in each case depending on the role you're applying for.
Step 7
Set yourself apart from the others by researching the email addresses of and emailing the people below:
1. Human Resources Manager:
Generally look for this person's email address and email them.
You can also stock them(ethically) on their social medial accounts(Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) to get their attention.
Comment on their posts. Get conversation going and make yourself shine out.
2. Content Manager
If you're looking to get hired as a Freelance writer, copywriter or general content writer
3. CMO (Chief Marketing Officer)
If you're applying for anything marketing related, this person is the person to email.
4. Chief Technical Officer(CTO)
You can also search for this person and email them if you're looking for technically related position.
If you can convince them, they in turn can convince the HRM to hire you.
5. Chief Accounting Officer:
As may have guessed, this person is in charge of anything money and accounting in the company.
They can take you to Paradise.
6. Chief Executive Officer
In small startups, it isn't a bad idea to email the CEO himself.
He might have a very good budget set aside to hire an extra hand or two.
If you don't reach out to him, how will he notice you to know what you can do?
Step 8
That being said, to get the information of all the above personnels to get hired, you can search for:
1. "Mastheads + company name"
2. Crew + company name
3. Team + company name eg Team Microsoft
If you search the above key words, you will get the list of all their key employees/confounders/officers or the "who is who" of a company you're hoping to get hired in.
Moving on...
Step 9
Sometimes. You. Need. Social. Proofs.
In some company, your CV won't even get past first five seconds if your email pitch is devoid of samples of one or two past works.
You need to have a website or blog to showcase your past excellent works. Especially the ones with great reviews.
There are websites hosted online that you create for free.
On or two social proof is enough if you're just starting out.
This isn't hard, if you're a writer for instance, you can include the link to an article you published on Medium.com
You can provide value to an Application you've been using and send an email to the developers about the value.
They'll be happy to include your name in their online list of honorable mentions.
That could be all you need to secure the job especially if the App is a bit widely used and popular.
I once reviewed a popular App and emailed it to the developer, a whiteman.
He was so excited, he sent me the link where he had included my name as part of the branding team.
Step 10
Get interviewed and get hired.
I'll explain my best three tips to get hired in any interview.
You'll appear so awesome, your prospective boss will not fail to notice how much value you can add to their establishment.
I've been interviewed as few as four times before and I got hired each time.
If and when you get to this stage, I'll be happy to help you with tips.
That's it.
Let me know if you need any assistance with any of the above or if you have any question you want me to clarify.
I'll be happy to respond.
