*NIGERIA AT 59, A SAGACIOUS CELEBRATION?
By Adamu Danjuma
The name Nigeria is like a deliciously-cooked meal and the Nigerians are like the aromatic ingredients from which the meal derives its taste. Without an iota of doubt, Nigeria has been, and continues to be, the commercial hub of the African continent.
Chinese and Indian businesses abound here and there while the number of investors in our country is still increasing every day. Should the said number increase tremendously, it will benefit us a lot, at lease by reducing the rate of unemployment.
The previous assumptions, and many more others, have since been a major force which contributes in our hopping for a better country where we can drink enough milk and dine in sagacity. Perhaps we will do that without thinking twice about what we need to provide for ourselves and the posterity.
From 1960 to 2019, days after days, here we are at 59. Still, we keep imagining that in this geographic location we find ourselves, everyone as a subject of the so-called leaders needs not to worry at all.
Alas, the youthful generation of my calibre, from far and near, thinks about voyage to the land of Eldorado where greener pastures are not seen as a causative factor of ritual killing, drug trafficking, kidnapping... Calmly, we remain committed as we are aiming for a better-than-this-Nigeria.
Moreover, Nigeria is like a mother. You can't change her. Can you replace your beloved mother with anything? I strongly feel you can't. This is exactly the illustration of what Nigeria means to us. No matter the situation, we can't abandon our motherland, the land that needs to be cultivated.
Nigeria, amidst all the previous challenges, the current ones, and the ones yet-to-be-faced, will continue to rise and keep moving from the category of "Underdeveloped countries" to that of "Developed countries" like Australia, Canada and Japan.
Arguably, Nigeria is a metaphor of courage and strength. The Nigerian flag inspires hope and joy. The green colour reflects the verdant nature where our indefatigable farmers are working day and night to feed the Nation. The white colour is the interpretation of how hospitable we are as a country.
Decidedly, let's love each other. Love, despite our difference, shall be our guide. Let's therefore be guided by love, oh my dearest lovable bothers and sisters! We're dynamic and ambitious!
Conclusively, let's do our best without waiting for the Government. The more courageous we continue to be, the more terrains we conquer.
Happy Independence Day to everyone.
Nigeria is ours. Let's see ourselves as one.
