Shagay Solar Intervention::  It is a great boost for security of our community and robust economic environment - Kwara Gov

Remarks by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq ably represented by Barr Hon Abdulgafar Ayinla at the official flag off of provision of 4000 Homes Solar Intervention Scheme by the Salman Shagaya Foundation in Ilorin, Kwara State, on 14th November, 2019.

Courtesies:

I begin this address by first and foremost commending the brains behind the Salman Shagaya Foundation for this laudable intervention — and other things the Foundation has been doing in the past few years. This is a development worthy of emulation. This is community service at its best. On behalf of the Government and people of Kwara State, I commend Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya and management of this Foundation for this great initiative. It is a great boost for security of our community and an incentive for a more robust economic environment because our people can now trade even at night in areas where you have this facility.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this administration will leave Kwara far better than it met it a few months ago. Our agenda is to bequeath to the coming generation a Kwara that is a proud reference point in the North Central Region and Nigeria. Apart from partnering with private initiatives and investors, our administration is committing huge budgetary allocations to strengthen our infrastructure and reposition our state. By this time next year, God willing, Kwara State Library will have facilities that would make learning enjoyable and inspire our tech-savvy young people to aspire to become the Mark Zuckerbergs of Africa.

Similarly, efforts are in top gear to link our state with good roads. Yesterday, in line with our commitment to run a transparent government, we conducted open bids for some 134 contractors who have applied to take part in the construction or rehabilitation of 26 roads across the state. That is just the Phase 1 of our Urban Renewal Programme. These roads, when concluded, will reduce travel time, bring our farm produce closer to markets in the metropolis, and ease movement of people and good.

We have also resolved to partner with various investors on how to develop our potentials in the Aso Ofi industry, while plans are ongoing to empower small and medium scale businesses that are often the backbone of any successful economy. The recently passed Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) has been designed to ensure that no segment of our state, especially the less privileged, is left to suffer. Even then, the 2020 budget would show more clearly the direction we are headed in our efforts to rebuild a new Kwara.

Once again, I thank the Salman Shagaya Foundation for this great initiative. God bless you! I urge the beneficiary communities to take ownership of the solar energy to disallow vandals or thieves from rubbishing the whole effort. I urge other well-to-do members of our society to also join hands with our administration to develop this state.

Thank you!
