Kwara Environmental:: 34 Sanitation Offenders Arrested; May Serve Two Months Jail Term.
Today, the 30th day of November 2019, Kwara State held its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, during today's end of the month environmental sanitation exercise, 34 sanitary offenders were arrested for violating the norms of the Kwara State environmental sanitation exercise, they range from:
(1) Roaming or driving about during the sanitation exercise - Section 30 of sanitation law
(2) Failure to observe sanitation exercise - Section 31 (1 & 2) of sanitation law
(3) Obstruction of health officers on duty - Section 33 of sanitation laws
According to the law, some of the offenders will serve one (1) or two (2) months in prison or pay fine, Sanitary Officer Mrs Odeniyi Rebecca, a Deputy Director was in charge while Magistrate Aluko gave court orders to the offenders. The monthly sanitation exercise came up across the 16 LGAs of Kwara State where citizens engaged in cleaning their environment for safe hygiene.
While responding to questions from Just Event Online sanitary reporter, Alhaji Said Ola Haliru the permanent secretary kwara state ministry of environment said essence of sanitation is to keep our environment clean and to have healthy society, keeping our environment clean and green keeps away all diseases from us, preventive they say is far better than cure, government has put all efforts on preventions and that will make them spend less money on curative, we've been on sensitizing the people that cleaningness is next to godliness, he said.
The Chairman Task Force Committee on Environmental sanitation, Hon. Razaq Jiddah also responded to some questions, he said that the social environmental contractors are liable to do most of this things but most of them are not up to the task, as the chairman task force committee on environmental sanitation we will submit our report to the gov and soon everything will be review.
As the Perm Sec said we have started advocacy in the three (3) senatorial region of kwara state on why citizens needs to keep their environment clean, very soon, we're going to establish volunteer corps on environment, they'll be the one to enforce environmental sanitary laws. There's also a recycling company in the pipeline that will transform all the waste to wealth.
House Leader, Hon. Magaji Olawoyin representing Chairman House Committee on Health and environment, Hon. Rasaq Owolabi said 9th assembly already moved some motion on dumping of refuse on the street which will made it prohibited for every Kwaran and residents of Kwara to drop refuse on the ground.
Mr. Ayantola Kunle Olutayo, the DPM of Ilorin West LGA also spoke on why citizens need to cooperate with the govt in order to have an hygienic environment, waste tanks are in the pipeline, very soon we'll deliver to all areas of the state, he said.
Mr Taiwo Hassan, a Kwaran advised the govt to take proper action against the sanitary offenders, he also plead to the Gov. to make provisions for waste bin.
The exercise was carried out and supervised at Oja Oba, Ipata Market , Gambari ,Oke Kura and other areas.
