• Gov hails body for ‘good job’
Kwara State Governor’s Special Task Force on Environment has begun the distribution of 528 waste bins as the state government steps up efforts to clear the Ilorin metropolis of refuse dumps.
The 528 waste bins were recently paid for by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration as a stop-gap measure to address the challenge of refuse dumps in major parts of the state capital.
Razaq Jiddah, head of the adhoc committee who led his team to present 10 of the bins to the Kwara State Government House on Wednesday, said they would continue the distribution to other parts of the city, especially areas with high refuse dumps.
Jiddah said the bins have so far been distributed to densely populated areas like Oja Oba, Alanamu Market, Mandate market, Ago market, Gegele Market, Ipata market, and Ita Alanamu community after evacuating the huge refuse dumps there.
“The Task Force has also started distributing refurbished Roro bins from the environment ministry. One each has been taken to Tanke and Surulere/Agbo Oba junction, while one will be placed at Ita Ajia, two at Ipata market, and one along the Airport Road,” according to Jiddah.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his part, commended the Task Force for a good job in ensuring that the environment is conducive for healthy living.
“I want to thank you for the work done so far. I want you to keep it up to get rid of the waste and reorganise the waste as it should be. I went round today and I saw what you have been doing, most of the heaps have been piled up for more than 10 years and you make sure you clear them. Thank you again for your being proactive,” he said.
