Nigeria Customs Service, kwara Command seizes contraband goods worth millions of naira

The Nigerian Custom Service, Kwara State Command Headquarters, had on 19th August, 2020 held a press briefing to recount their successes so far between 1st August, 2019 and 31st January, 2020. Kwara State command headquarters of the agency recorded impressive achievements from the ongoing border closure that had enabled the agency to record improvement and incredible surge in Revenue generation and drastic improvement in curbing importation of contrabands.
The agency acknowledged the successes to the efforts made to create more commands by the agency board, sensitisation of the public by the agency, and ultimately, the Patriotism of its officers who had really helped a big deal.
The Comptroller while delivering his words also enjoined the public to continue assisting with relevant information as all the abusers of substances are definitely blood relatives or neighbours. He affirmed that only with useful information would enable them to record more breakthroughs.
More importantly, the Comptroller appreciated the co-operations of other sister agencies and head of Traditional Institutions for their synergy.

FOR THE PERIOD OF 1

Gentlemen of the press
It is a great pleasure to once again welcome you to Kwara Area
Command Headquarters Ilorin for a strategic press conference.
This is ultimately aimed at highlighting the feat achieved based
on our core functions of revenue generation, suppression of
smuggling and facilitation of trade. It is However important to
reiterate that among several reasons for the Unbundling and
creation of eight (8) new Area Commands (Kwara Command
inclusive) by the board of Nigeria Customs Service is to enhance
administrative convenience and boost revenue generation of the
Service.
REVENUE GENERATION
It will interest you to know that during the period under review
(August 2019- January 2020) the articulation and execution of
result oriented strategy based on the aforementioned vision have
yielded the generation of a total revenue of Four Billion, Seven
Million, Three Hundred and Twenty One Thousand, Eight Hundred
and Eighty Three Naira and Two Kobo (N4,007,321,883.02)
The feat was achieved as a result of sensitization, engagement of
stakeholders, the introduction and implementation of NICIS II
ANTI-SMUGGLING
While in the area of anti-smuggling within the period, the Command made
Forty Seven (47) seizures comprising of the items below:
1. 16 units of vehicles of various types
2. 953 bags of foreign rice (50kg each)
3. 4,357 bags mosquito coil
4. 184 Jerry Cans of PMS (25 liters each)
5. 48 Sacks of 3,593Kg of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana)
Total Duty Paid Value of the above items is Four Hundred and Forty
Eight Million, Four Hundred and Thirty One Thousand, Five
Hundred Naira (N448, 431,500.00)
Please Note, of interest is the seizure of forty Eight (48) Sacks of 3,593Kg
of Cannabis Sativa (other wise called MARIJUANA) You are not un￾aware of reported wide spread abuse on the substance across the country
by our teaming youths, this act is unfortunate and we at Kwara Command
will continue to do everything humanly possible to stop the smuggling of
the substance in order to guarantee a great and promising future for our
youths.
Gentlemen, these group of people are our children and they are Nigerians,
you are Nigerians and we all Nigerians, we must join hands together to deal with ugly tread
It is pertinent to inform you that the Command will continue to dialogue,
engage, sensitize and educate the public on the strategic role of NCS
activities to the social and economic stability our dear nation. On the other
hand, enforcement of government policies will always be accorded utmost
priority with strict adherence to extant laws and guidelines.
Finally, I wish to commend the synergy we are receiving from sister
agencies, opinion leaders, head of traditional institutions, eminent
personalities and other law abiding members of the public. We will
