Stop looting our property, APC chieftain tells Kwara govt
By Ahmed 'Lateef
Preparatory to the hand over of power to the incoming government, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Mr Oluwafemi Yusuf, has raised an alarm that the state government had indulged in what he called "indiscriminate looting of government property".
Yusuf also accused the outgoing government of offering employment to about 2000 people in both local and state government services at the twilight of its tenure in a desperate bid to complicate system for the new government.
Addressing Journalists in Ilorin yesterday, the APC stalwart said the party had been inundated with the indiscriminate manner in which the officials of the state government were moving government belongings out of Government House to unknown destinations.
He asked the government officials to halt the looting spree of government property forthwith, saying that the people would not condone such heist.
Yusuf also alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led state government having been massively rejected in the last general elections, had started selling government chalets around Government House and GRA to some officials and desperately undergoing signing of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).
He similarly accused that the outgoing government of desperately constituting the boards of certain commissions and agencies in the state as part of its plot to frustrate the government of APC.
The APC chieftain, who hails from Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, urged the people of the state to resist any ploy to subject Kwara to a state of chaos ahead of the inauguration of the new government.
"In the last three to four weeks now, the outgoing government has been involving itself in various activities that are inimical to the incoming administration. Part of it is the indiscriminate employment of people in both state and local government services.
"For instance, I have a document that contains the list of the people being employed into the local government service immediately after the elections. They have employed about 2000 people into the local government service. I have a document to back that up.
"Equally, those people that are working with the Governor are moving government property from the government official quarters down to their own houses or wherever they are taking them to.
"Then, all government chalets around Government House and GRA have been sold to some government officials and they are desperately undergoing the process of signing of C of O for the people that bought the property. That is what they are trying to do presently.
"But I want to assure them we have the list and we are aware of all the government chalets that are there. So, if they are contracting it out now, they should surely know that what they are doing will be an effort in futility.
"If you look at all their actions, one would start thinking. What do they have in mind to be doing this? Is it the love of Kwara that they are trying to protect or the love of themselves or they have another ulterior motive?
"But I will urge them that they should desist from all these indiscriminate things so that it would not further damage their names that had already been soiled in the eyes of the people that culminated into massive voting them out by the people of Kwara State.
"We are also calling on Kwarans to resist this attempt to bloat the state civil service, creating chaos for the incoming administration. They should tell them that they don't want them to appoint any other thing", the APC chieftain said.
