The Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin the Kwara State capital has validated the judgment of a High Court which sentenced a former Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Saadu Alanamu to 12-year imprisonment.
Dr. Alanamu who was nominated into the Board of ICPC in 2017 but was later dropped over corruption scandal had earlier been found guilty of pocketing N5,000,000 bribe from a contractor as backhander for the award of a contract and was as a result slammed with a 12 year jail term with no option of fine by Hon. Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of Kwara State High Court 9.
Challenging the verdict, Dr. Saad Alanamu approached the appeal court urging it to veto the verdict delivered by the trial court.
Having listened to the arguments from both the prosecution and the defence counsel, the Court of Appeal upheld the judgment of the lower court and dismissed Alanamu’s appeal for lack of merit.
