Kwara Must Change commend Governor Abdulrahman for Progressive proposal to strengthen FOI bill
Leading Pro-democracy group in Kwara state, Kwara Must Change has commended the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for subjecting freedom of information (FOI) bill to scrutiny and proposing progressive amendment to strengthen the bill.
In a statement by Kwara Must Change convener, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the group also said that the proposed amendment to the FOI bill as recommended by the Governor is highly commendable, because apart from the proposed amendment which shall be effected by the Kwara State House of Assembly, the 9th assembly shall also use the opportunity to perfect any perceived irregularities in the process.
According to Hamzat, the amendments proposed by Governor Abdulrahman to the FOI bill is a progressive proposal that would strengthen the bill, adding that such proposal, if effected by KWHA will enhance efficiency in public access to information.
Hamzat also explained that, the amendments will make it difficult for any public officer to reject FOI request, knowing fully well that doing so will attract severe sanctions.
Kwara Must Change therefore urges the State House of Assembly to promptly effect the amendments. It also commended the promoters of the bill.
