OUR LIVES IS IN DANGER -ABATA THAQOFI OLOJOKU COMMUNITY

27/10/2019

The condition of the area now is worrisome as many people have been rendered homelessly due to the heavy flood that is passing through the area when it is raining without proper channel for water to flow.

It will be recalled that the situation wasn't like this in the last five years before the government of last administration expanded the bridge at the front of Olojoku compound, Adeta road, Ilorin. This bridge links the drainages from other side of the road down to Abata Thaqofi Olojoku community to Kuntu Besco area..

Though the bridge was done with the good intention of reducing the flood on the road during and after the rain. The normal experience after the rain before the expansion of the bridge was that the road will be full of flood from Alawo compound down to gaaremu Alasirin for more than  a hour where many cars and lorries will be in gridlock.

This situation was affecting many houses by the road sides and damaging many cars and other properties before the government deem it fit to expand the bridge.

We told the government then that drainage where the flowing water will be passing through needs to be reconstructed, down from Olojoku compound to Besco area of Kuntu because we have foreseen this situation that if the drainage is not done, the community will be the victim of the circumstances.

However, the government started the work well with the  promise to construct the drainage from Olojoku down to Kuntu. To our greatest surprise, the drainage stopped at Alhaji Wahab Olojoku house which was not even near one quarter of what we were expecting.

The community didn't stop in persuading the government to help us and we were promised by our constituency representative at the red chamber to complete the project. We were told in 2016 that the project had been captured in the  constituency projects but was in vain. We heard the same story in 2017 and 2018.

The most painfully thing about this is that in 2019, towards general election, drainage project was executed where is not urgently needed and it's channeled directly to that Olojoku bridge which made the people of the community to experience more difficult situations.

This new drainage was part of 2018 constituency projects from our representative at red chamber and it was started from Otukoko Tejidini house, pass through Onikoko, Agunko and Alawo and Olayemi house  to Olojoku bridge.

At juncture, we are begging the government at all levels to please come to our aids as we have no other place to live. We are calling on all those that matter to please help the community.

The popular jummat Mosque of late Dr. Salman  Uthman Al-Thaqofi also in danger. This is calling for urgent intervention of today's government from our governor, senate, and to the tail.

Finally, We will be happy to receive all of you that matters especially his Excellency Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and our kwara central senator, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe to have first hand information about the place. May Allah (SWA) guard and guide you right. Ameen!
